OHRYC

The Oregon Homeless and Runaway Youth Coalition (OHRYC) is a statewide coalition of 65 individual and human services agency advocates for runaway and homeless youth. The purpose of the OHRYC is to bring awareness to the dire conditions of this population and to provide advocacy that results in the development of a statewide coordinated, culturally competent, gender specific, service delivery system that meets the needs of runaway, homeless youth, and their families

 MISSION

We are a coalition of Oregon youth advocates dedicated to ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive development of young people who are homeless or runaway. We believe that services for homeless and runaway youth are being neglected and our efforts will continue until an adequate integrated service system is in place. We are committed to securing a comprehensive continuum of opportunities, supports, and services for both homeless and runaway youth. Furthermore, we are dedicated to promoting recognition of the positive contribution these young people make in our communities.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Our membership is inclusive of all advocates bringing focus to homeless and runaway youth in Oregon, and we support other statewide efforts on their behalf. To this end, the state of Oregon should ensure the following:

  • Youth have safe and stable places to live.

  • Youth are nurtured and protected within our communities.

  • Youth have access to a comprehensive continuum of services.

  • Youth are offered opportunities and supports necessary to reach their full potential.
